vicenza

I'm not quite sure why, but I never really used to shoot in portrait orientation. And for the sake of this blog, the lines created from the landscape photos was always so graphically pleasing. On this trip, I've found myself using portrait more and more, and I'm so fond of some of my photos that I've decided to break the with norm of my blog. To hell with order. :)

Vicenza was great. Palladio is everywhere there. We used a small hotel there as a base to take day-trips to Milan, Verona, Treviso, Venice, and Genoa. I'll post up all the photos soon enough!

photo montage

Part of the elective credit I'm taking here is to create a photo montage. Like David Hockney's pieces, the goal of the montage is not to capture one moment, but to present a space over time. Here, I wanted to capture the essence of my favorite place to hang out at the study facility, the communal courtyard.

positano and capri

Where to begin? Last weekend a small group of us headed for the Amalfi Coast, something that's been on my itinerary since I found out I'd be going to Italy. In short, wow. We spent a bit of time seeing Positano and laying around at the beach, and then we took a boat to the island of Capri. On the way, we stopped for a dip in the Mediterranean, which was freezing cold, but we warmed up to it (no pun intended.)

I bought a few small bottles of limoncello, a lemon liquor that's made here. The people-watching is first rate. Angry Italian mothers, the fashionable elite, the Eurotrash, the thugs. Italians are so full of life.
